The Folsom point holds great historic significance because it revolutionized North American archaeology. Prior to its discovery near the town of Folsom, New Mexico, on August 29, 1927, scientists believed humans had been in the New World for only 3,000-4,000 years. Then this point was found between the ribs of an extinct Ice Age bison named Bison antiquus. This direct connection-between a human-made artifact and an extinct Ice Aga mammal-proved that humans were in North America far earlier, 12,000 years ago.
The original type specimen is on display at The Denver Museum of Nature & Science, The cast of this point and the image © of the point "insitu" are provided through mammoth Run Lithic Casting, LLC in an exclusive licensing agreement with the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.
